GNS Field Meetings Spring and Summer 2010

The field meetings, unless stated below, will be of general interest, including birds, botany, geology ... whatever turns up. Stout footwear essential, and remember your hand-lenses and binoculars.

Sunday 21 March 2010, 10.30 am

Sunday 28 March 2010 at Cinderford Linear Park North.
Meet at the layby near Winner's garage, SO645150, at 11am (warning - British Summer Time begins today, so remember to change your clocks), for pond-dipping for amphibians. Wellies advisable and bring nets, if you have them. Leaders: Colin and Ingrid Twissell (01452 714413)

Hailey Wood. Park at Coates turning off A419 (SO964019). A morning meeting of general natural history interest. Leader: David Scott-Langley (01285 659631).

Saturday 5 June 2010, 10.00am
Cud Hill, Upton St Leonards (SO861125). Limestone grassland restored over the last decade. Good for Skylark, Whitethroat, Yellowhammer and other scrub birds, and for flowers especially orchids. Leader: Lynne Garner.

Sunday 13 June 2010, 10.30am
19 Chesterton Grove, Cirencester to look at the results from the previous night’s moth-trapping session and other invertebrates from a mature suburban garden. Hope for good weather! Parking in Chesterton Grove with due consideration for residents. Leader: David Scott-Langley (01285 659631).

Saturday 26 June 2010, 10.30am
Cinderford Linear Park/Laymoor Quag. Day-flying moths and butterflies with hoped-for highlight Clouded Buff. Meet opposite Winner Garage (SO644151). Bring packed lunch if required. Will continue in afternoon. Leader: Roger Gaunt (01594 530475).

Thursday 18 March 2010, 7.30pm. Annual General Meeting, followed by speaker, Phoebe Carter of the Cotswold Water Park on Beaver re-introduction.

Indoor Meetings at Watermoor Church Hall, Cirencester

7.15pm for 7.30pm start. Free to members.

Friday 12 March 2010. Cirencester Annual Business Meeting. Members night, photographic and artistic competitions

Friday 9 April 2010. John Heathcott, Woodland Trust
