GNS Field Meetings 2008
There are two errors in the diary as printed in the Spring GNS News.
The Beachley Point meeting, led by Ivan Proctor, was given as being on Saturday 2 May, but the Saturday is the 3rd May.
The lichen meeting at Mickleton is on Tuesday 3 June, not the 11th as printed.
Tuesday 15 April, 11am.
Lichens*, Wenchford. From A48 at Blakeney, take Parkend road, and Wenchford FC carpark is about a mile along on the right at SO654081. Juliet Bailey.
Tuesday 22 April,6pm.
General interest, but especially birds. Awre, SO708077. Meet at the end of the lane past Red Hart Pub. Phone prior to meeting to say you are going, if no calls, walk will not go ahead. Leader: Mervyn Greening, 01452 790492
Saturday 3 May, 10am.
General interest. Beachley Point. Meet at the car park under the old Severn Bridge at the end of the road from Sedbury, ST 552907. An old fashioned nature walk of about 2 hours duration. Leader: Ivan Proctor.
Tuesday 6 May, 6pm.
Guscar Rocks - mostly for birds. Meet at Plusterwine Crossing. ST601991. Phone prior to meeting to say you are going. If no calls meeting will not go ahead. Leader: Mervyn Greening, 01452 790492

Saturday 7 June, 2.30pm.
Wildlife gardening. Quarry Farm House, just above Caudle Green GL53 9PR, SO938106. Park at the triangle above Caudle Green, where the Caudle Green sign is, or at the bus stop in Caudle Green and walk up; also a few spaces in the driveway. Leader: Jenny Beal.
Saturday 14 June 10.30am.
Day-flying moths and butterflies. Cinderford Linear Park/Laymoor Quag, SO644151. Meet opposite Winner Garage. There are some intereting records from this area, and we hope to see some of the species seen here in the past. Bring packed lunch if required. Will continue in afternoon. Leader: Roger Gaunt.
Wednesday 18 June, 11am.
Flora of Westridge Woods, Wotton-under-Edge, ST754941. Meet at road-side lay-by. A day's meeting looking at the limestone flora of the woods of the southern Cotswold scarp. Bring lunch. Stout footwear. Leaders: Mark and Clare Kitchen.
Sunday 29 June.
Bughunt, Coombe Hill. Meet at Wharf end car park (SO886272) at 10am. All day event, looking for mini-beasts on the reserve in the morning, then Apperley village hall for microscopes etc in afternoon. Especially suitable for children. Leader: David Scott-Langley.
Friday 4 July, 8.30pm.
Nightjars, Forest of Dean. Meet at the Woodland car park on the B4226 midway between Coleford and Cinderford, SO 624125. Approx two hours. Leader: Ivan Proctor.

Wednesday 13 August, 11am.
Botany of Cadora Woods, Wye Valley, SO544055. Meet at small car park. A visit to one of the Wye Valley's most exciting woodland reserves to look for Tintern Spurge and Spreading Bellflower. Bring lunch. Stout footwear. Leaders: Mark and Clare Kitchen.

Saturday 18 October, Evening.
60th Anniversary Celebrations – an evening with Chris Packham. Brickhampton Court Golf Complex, Cheltenham Road, Churchdown. A finger buffet will be available together with a fully licensed bar, and a number of competitions and exhibits of the society’s history. Monthly meetings to check Dormouse nest boxes which have been put up in woods around May Hill. Checks will normally take place either in afternoons or evenings close to or on the second weekend of each month from April through to October. Ring Mervyn Greening if you wish to join one of the visits. 01452 790492.
